"Great restaurants provide great experiences, but great restauranteurs unfortunately spend many of the hours in each week doing activities that could (and should) be automated, rather than being able to use those hours focusing on what makes their concept or business exceptional." That is finally changing. Some restaurants have adapted swiftly while others are still catching up. Whatever stage of the AI-enabled transformation they are at, restaurants (like many other industries before them - from aviation to fashion) are discovering the awesome power of pattern recognition: from knowing when a certain machine might need maintenance to that one unexpected afternoon in the middle of the week when orders seem to go off the charts, from reducing errors, inventory and labour costs to offering tailored promotions and discounts at the right time and the right place (perhaps just as one's walking past a favourite pizzeria at lunch time).
IKEA was able to reduce its food waste by 50% in 2022, using AI technology to track what was going into its bins! While an unusually mad lunchtime rush for brown stew at Ruby's Jamaican Kitchen one day turned out to be the work of an automated promotion using Popmenu's content creation tool.
Meanwhile, Otonomus Hotel, set to open in Las Vegas later this year will set entirely new standards in customized customer service by using AI to "allow guests to customize rooms, services and amenities based on their likes and dislikes, create digital twin avatars, gamify the onboarding experience and use tracking systems to refine personalization over time." #wow https://lnkd.in/ej5-PxSd
So what's in store for 2025?
Expect more restaurants to incorporate AI in the business of taking orders, preparing food, business operations and marketing. https://lnkd.in/eB4JWAGV
Not just in the advanced economies of the west but around the world as restaurant operators begin to appreciate the scale of AI-powered hospitality techs' long-term benefits and absorb the immediate costs of building and integrating solutions being developed by ambitious startups such as Blink Co Technologies and innovative food delivery platforms such as foodpanda. https://lnkd.in/e9-7U7f3
